Sleepy, sleepy day today. Going to bed early tonight to compensate. Not doing homework - naughty, naughty! But oh-so-necessary.

And why is my sleep schedule so screwed? Why, because we had a housewarming party on Saturday that lasted from noon till 2 a.m. It was a really good time: troops of friends descended upon the place, praised the apartment, ate a tonne of veggies, smoked & drank up a storm, and departed in an orderly fashion. We had 24 all told - 8 family, 16 friends. I smoked a lot of cigarettes to compensate for my enforced sobriety and ate a lot of the food. The Boy got drunk & loud, not realizing how much alcohol he had taken on until it was too late. Oh well - it's not like he had to drive home. Everyone mixed & chatted really well. I had a nice time.

Did I mention that it was my first party ever? Never before have I been brave enough to entertain, never before have I had the chutzpah to fling open my doors and risk a million rejections. I had a good time, too. I think part of it was being in a clean, well-lit, food-full house for the first time since Nova Scotia. I really enjoyed seeing the potential of my place finally displayed.

The Boy, in the morning: "Wow, this place hasn't looked this nice since..."

Me: "It's never looked this nice."

Thanks go out to Death & Evil Dr. Go for being the first non-family guests to cross the threshold (not to mention bringing baby carrots!); to St. Stephen & St. Jack for bearing the morbid humour of my mother with good grace; to Tym for the brownies; to Stacy for being vexed that she missed even an hour of the fun (what a compliment!); to the Lawyer who brought characteristic deadpan Jewish humour; to Jesse for overlooking our lack of invitation; to Q for bringing chilli; to Little Spider for bringing a troupe; to Ian for harassing strangers at a bus stop nearby; to Paul for forgetting the time (again, a compliment!); and to Sister Silver for bringing Nova Scotia water & a gallon of good humour.

I'll definitely be doing this again, and I'm hoping to expand the list!
