I finally got paid yesterday, so my negative balance became positive in several important ways. Also, because my union got a little bit more money from the recalcitrant school board, I got a small bump of retroactive back pay as well. All of which helped to pay for dinner at KOS last night at brunch at Bread & Roses today. (And because I was feeling like Uncle Moneybags, we actually ordered something other than the $4 all-day breakfast at KOS. My fish & chips came with a slice of pickle so sour that it practically nuked my mouth. Yuuum.)

Bread & Roses deserves a paragraph of its own. About 3 weeks ago, the Boy went wandering in our Bloor West neighbourhood in search of a dentist to soothe his troubled jaw (he calls it his mouf; I call it his joke-hole). On the way, he found several good bakeries, some intriguing delis & fruit markets, and a large number of baby-themed stores. Since then we've noticed that you can't move in Bloor West without bumping into a gigantic stroller or a hip mama with a snuggly. There are literally babies everywhere, and I'd be a lot more excited if my baby-energy wasn't concentrated on my belly. The Boy calls our neighbourhood a fertility vortex, and theorizes that this is the reason for my happy predicament.

Last week before the party, we went down to eat breakfast at a bakery called Bread & Roses. The whole grain bagel and fresh orange juice charged me like rocket fuel; I haven't felt this good leaving a restaurant since the smoothie place in Wolfvegas. So of course, now we've been eating party leftovers for a week and they've finally ran out and I've been paid and I'm feeling extravagant (not to mention hungry)...we went to Bread & Roses again. This time we even squeezed in a visit at the end of the morning, to take some of their intriguingly large sandwiches home for a nibble. Bread and Roses hits me like Kalendar - I love what I've eaten so much that I want to eat it every visit, but I'm unduly tempted by other items. Now that I've had the turkey breast sandwich, I think I'm ready for the home-made traditional perogies. Again: yum.

In between stops at Bread & Roses, we visited a cool baby store where I got a free sample of moisturising cream for incredibly expanding belly & breasts (not a problem right now, though) and the Boy played with all the rattles & brightly coloured toys. We also visited a Chapters located in a former theatre, where I browsed "Pregnancy For Dummies" and picked up Spider Robinson's latest novel. Apparently the near-panic attack I had this week may have nothing to do with my decreased medication, but rather with the normal mood swings of pregnancy. That's a pretty big relief. Mostly the book was a collection of info better covered in the big book I already have - which is not only more informative, it's also a Canadian book, and thus full of Canadian resources.

So, one of those excellent Saturday mornings. I'm really happy with my weekends these days. I think I'm feeling the school year finally end, and it's buoying my spirits immensely.

Got really good news at work on Friday. During my latest (and perhaps final) evaluation meeting with my principal, she assured me that things were going well and offered me a place on a Grade 9 Skill-Building Team for next fall. Just the thought of having a job next year (and not being the Incredibly Pregnant Substitute - see her waddle around the room, too slow-moving to put out behavioural fires!) made me giddy.

I'm really hoping to put all of this crap behind me next week.

On Wednesday I went to see The Matrix: Reloaded with Stacy, Jesse, Exodus & the Boy. It was a very late showing and I was very tired the next day, but I can't say that regretted it. I loved loved loved the Jesuitical coat swirling in the innumerable fight scenes, loved loved loved Trinity on a motorcycle (sounds like a swear), loved the weird little Keymaker, and of course, loved the strange temple service/rave (I have to start going to their church.) I'll just leave the rest unsaid to avoid spoiling the uninitiated, let it rest that it was wonderful and I am fully satisfied after the long wait.
