Two good things about this week: my dad bought me a bicycle for my birthday and I just made my first purchase of maternity clothes. Yay!

The bike is super-baby-girlie: blue & white with huge ape hangers, pedal brakes, 3 speeds, a basket & a bell (and a candle, and a book, and a ring...). On Wednesday the Boy & I spent a very entertaining half-hour swooping around my parents' neighbourhood on our bikes. Of course, this isn't my childhood relived; my parents moved away from that house as soon as I went to university. Also, I'm incredibly awkward after more than 3 years off bikes. Still, it didn't take long to start digging the freedom of the two-tire transportation. I think this is going to be a good summer.

I've held off on buying clothes for a number of reasons: too tired, too broke, too fat, not fat enough... Yesterday I realized that I couldn't get through the summer with only one pair of maternity shorts. (And you shall know them by the expandable cotton patch in the front. We call it the "love patch.") So after my doctor's appointment, we hit Value Village & the Sally Ann, looking for gently used mat shorts. At VV I found a gold lamé blouse & two knit tops that fit without billowing, but no shorts. the Boy had better luck, and walked out with two new pairs of shorts. At SA, I found nothing (although the Boy did grab a Choose Your Own Adventure from his youth and a Golden Book about whales.) At the mall, our last ditch resort for cheap Boy shoes, Thyme Maternity's summer sale yanked us in. I bought shorts, a patterned blue cotton tanktop & a sleeveless red dress that flutters & snaps when I walk. All I have to say in my defence is that they were all on sale...and the shorts actually make my ass look almost normal. That's kind of cool.
