"Keep it light enough to travel..."

We saw Geoff Berner perform last night at Holy Joe's. And although it was really too late for responsible adults like ourselves, we stuck it out bravely and even woke up on time for a change. Nice.

Of course, on the way into work, I got a 100-dollar speeding ticket. And my clothes became unexpectedly "out damn, spot!" thanks to an unexpected lunar phenomenon. But that's hardly Geoff's fault.

Beautiful set, a dozen songs of quirky loveliness (one of which came from Carmaig, the Boy's StanFest Hero). Geoff recognised us in the tiny audience of 5, and tried to convince me to stay out late & go into class all hung over. I suppose that kind of decision-making makes sense to a musician.

I've been singing his choruses all day. I can't believe that we missed another chance to buy a CD.

come on!

Good day at skool today. The 'fun' Macbeth assignment reaped a tremendously crappy crop of skits - the kind of stuff you'd be embarrassed to show visiting feeder schools. On the other fist, my tens are really getting into Romeo & Juliet - and a chunk of them have read it before, which means that they're more comfortable than usual with the story. Bonus!

Today I found out that I went to middle & highschool with one of my pupil's cousins. I remember this girl quite well - we were both bright girls in our classes, and I remember her being kind as well as smart. In her last year of highschool she found love with an ubergeek (I'm not making fun; look at who I'm married to) and got a bad case of mono. She graduated late, the geek dumped her and that's the last I remember hearing about her until today.

Her cousin, my pupil, gave me a slip of paper with her phone number on it. Do I dare? Do I dare to call a peach? (I shall wear blue flannel pj's and read about the Sneetch. I have heard the alumni calling, each to each. I do not think they will be phoning me.)

Maybe tomorrow, when I'm on the other side of a pile of essays. Not that I've marked any of them tonight...
