Discovered something new today.

As a child, I had so many digestive problems that I hardly gained weight for the first couple of years of my life. My doctor told my mom that if there was something that was causing this, that basically all she had to do was let me eat what I wanted, and I would probably start turning down whatever made me ill. So my mom let me eat whatever I wanted, to the point that when I decided at the age of three to only eat peanut butter sandwiches, she bit the bullet and bought a lot of peanut butter. This would have worked just fine and dandy apparently, if my mom hadn't decided that it wasn't healthy for a child to go without milk and made me drink it. The funny thing, of course, is that I spent much of my childhood in digestive pain, barfing at the drop of a hat, something that only alleviated as I got older and stopped drinking milk so much. When we finally figured out that I was lactose intolerant, around the age of 18, my mom made no connection between these things and never mentioned it to me. In her recent visit, she basically decided to recount entire chunks of my childhood, much of which revolved around my digestive troubles. Somewhere in the middle of this conversation, my mom had a brainwave, resulting in her yelling 'eureka' loudly in a crowded restaurant and then laughing hysterically.

Funny.
