march 13, 2002.

I got a call from Scherezade last night. The interview last week came through. In three weeks she will be moving to The Hague for 16 months. I've decided to tell people that the UN was impressed by the fact that she managed to knock down Mike Bullard at the Genies, so they seconded her to be part of a secret UN mission to clandestinely kick Milosevic's ass. But in reality she will be proofreading transcripts of the war crimes tribunal. Which is still tremendously exciting; my version just has morning stars and a lot of black form-fitting clothing. And that's the way I likes it.

I'm alternately tremendously excited and kind of sad that she won't be in Toronto next year. (Then again, I might not be either, so I have no grounds for angst.) I've decided to sublimate the sadness by insisting that she keep a blog while she lives in Holland so I can check up on her fabulous ass-kicking adventures. She's thinking about it.

me: you have that domain already, what's it called? Big Fat Ho dot Com?
sch.: hey! That's Big Skanky Ho dot Com!
me: well, excuse me!

Mom (my mom, that is) was very excited when I told her and has already started to plan a Dutch adventure for the three of us. And although I can't get away until next March Break (i.e. a year from now), I'm all for this plan. My mom is a lot of fun on vacation...but then again, I don't know how she would affect the whole me-and-Scherezade dynamic. Then again, no matter how it turned out, I would still be in Holland for a week. You can't say bad things about that...

Still sick, but I managed to finish one teaching unit. Unfortunately, it's the small unit. Sigh. 13 lessons to go...
