Inroads continue to be made on my pending unemployment: I began assembling a package for the School Board of Greater Gomorrah (SBoGG) as well as applying to several online listings in the Sodom Heights School Division (SHSD - my old board!). I'm hoping to get a few more letters of recommendation this week to add to the "hire me!" file. Keep your fingers crossed.

Whilst travelling last month in lands serviced by the SHSD, I bought the new Concrete Blonde CD. It was more of a completist thing than a fan thing - I have every Concrete Blonde album, several singles, and numerous Johnette side projects & one-offs. Except for "Damage I've Done," I haven't heard a good song out of the crew since Pretty & Twisted...and I hadn't even begun university when that CD came out.

The album stayed in the shrink wrap for various reasons; I first opened it upon arriving home on Tuesday. For a few days I was too deeply turtled in Convergence afterglow to really listen to the disc, although I played it constantly (alternating regularly with a new copy of Outlandos D'Amor and a 3-song ep from my favourite punk rock darlings Bella Morte). This afternoon I started to like it. I thirsted for one or two tracks. Fifteen minutes ago I took my first stroll through the liner notes. All I have to say is ka-pow! Great fucking CD.

valentine

you were watching me eat
you were watching me sleep
you were a willing sheep
& I was little bo peep &
you were writing it down &
you were looking for cracks
but I look good with a knife in my back.

valentine, my steel spine, shines up fine, valentine.
valentine,I'm all mine, shines up fine, valentine.

with a flick of my wrist &
with a twitch of my lid
I'll make you wish like hell
you never said what you did &
with a flick of my tongue &
with a lick of my lip
you'll never work your way up
to where I slipped from

chorus.

well I got a leather skin
& I got a brick head
& I got clay feet &
a heart of dead lead &
I'm all wired up
& I gotta lotta soul
and from what I hear a golden hole.

[an inhuman yowl, a johnette noise that raises the hair on the back of my neck]

chorus.
