What to say about today? Today was a storm day, a cascade of powdery snow that (once again) shut down the local schools. But today was also my make-up class and I was determined to show up. It wasn't even that bad out, really - there was a hell of a lot of snow on the ground, of course, and it was bucketing down like crazy until noon or so - but I wouldn't call it bad exactly. "Bad" is icy & wet & really cold. This was more like "challenging."

So imagine my shock & consternation when I arrived at class to find that my professor had cancelled the whole shebang last night.

But it's not in me to be mad. I figure I deserve this after Monday's bad decision - and this kind of comeuppance doesn't sting. Besides, my weekly humbling session with Grade Sevens (or as I like to call it, 45 Minutes of Defensiveness) was cancelled and I got a tonne of reading done. Double-plus good.

This afternoon I finished one of the books the Boy gave me for Christmas: Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones. (Last year he gave me Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone, and when he gave me this new one, he remarked that he was trying to continue the kiddie fantasy win streak.) Although it was published some time ago, it's one of the real-world-plus-magic books that are big news these days, and it's been fitted up with a spiff new cover. I really really enjoyed it - it's way better than the Lemony Snicket books, that's for damn sure. It is even possible for one reading this book to forget for a while that one is desperately wondering why Snape has a Death Eater tattoo, a feat that is impossible during any of the Unfortunate Events.
