this diary

...has been around since June 14, 1997. I started keeping it 2 days after my long-time highschool boyfriend finally dumped me. I had been playing road hockey with his heart the entire year; I more than deserved it. But I still decided to channel my impassioned bitterness into a web journal. There have been changes in my life, of course. When I started, I was a single, care-free english major, dancing & drinking my way through Toronto. These days I'm married to a boy not mentioned in the above, teaching school for a living, wearing different clothes but thinking largely similar thoughts.

Before this I kept a paper diary from age 15 to 19 (then university and beer got in the way of my concentration). So I've got a lot of practise in dissecting my own motives - one might say, too much practise.

To learn more about me, you can go to the bio page, or if you're a patient type, just stick around for a while. There's lots of words here to keep you busy. Unfortunatly, most of them are "ass".

Just kidding.

the further adventures of rocketbride

...is just some silliness my husband dreamed up when he looked at a modern wedding gown. "It looks like you could hide a jet pack under that skirt," he said, "and then you'd make it only halfway down the aise before you zoomed off into the sky. Whee!"

"But that would mean that I dumped you." I said. "Oh well. I suppose you could become twisted and evil from the experience. You could rename yourself Jilt-or and dedicate yourself to my destruction."

and so it was to be...

stats

I've kept this online diary since June of 1997. Here are some patterns and puzzlements.

names: I play with pseudonyms constantly.

  • My real name is Aleta; that pops up once in awhile.
  • When I kept Greek Drama (my first on-line diary) I went by Tisiphone.
  • The preferred name for I Put A Spell On You is Amoret.
  • Now that I'm deeply into my Further Adventures of Rocketbride stage, I will often refer to myself as Rocketbride.
  • During the WWST days, I was, of course, the World's Worst Student Teacher.
  • And just to make it even more confusing, my livejournal name is Belphoebe.

titles: My obsession with names extends to the diary itself. I get bored easily, as you will see from the design.

  • "Greek Drama" was a fanciful construction referring to what I considered the constant classical tragedy of my life (have pity: I was 21 at the time.)
  • "I Put A Spell On You" is a reference to the very famous Screaming Jay Hawkins song (although I'm quite partial to the Marilyn Manson and Ana Bon-Bon covers of the tune). I'm continually surprised at how many people search the site for love spells or wart removal spells. Hello, I've got a collect call from Irony; will you accept?
  • "Further Adventures of Rocketbride" was a futile attempt to exorcise my superhero desires.
  • "WWST: the secret files of the World's Worst Student Teacher" is pretty self-explanatory.
  • I think I also called this diary "Pay Attention to Me!" one month.

the design: I need more feedback on it. Gimme some.

names (2): 90% of the people who appear in this diary do so under fictitious pseudonyms. It's just better that way.

time span: I've kept this diary for more than 5 years. Somehow it's still fun. I am not, however, part of the "community." This is both a choice & an inevitability.

fame!

I don't win awards. I don't know why. So where other sites have awards, I have a few recent, random words of praise. I keep this here to make myself feel good; you're more than welcome to contribute.

Smart, well-spoken and beautiful. Her 'boy' is a lucky man. (and he was equally well-spoken, although slightly less beautiful. ^_-) I can hardly believe she's a teacher. If I had ever had a teacher like her, I imagine I would've had the ultimate crush. - John Doe 666

i want to take some time to share an appreciation for the way You articulate. i was checking out what the web says about me and found Your reference to an evening in Wolfvlle that i spoke to an audience including several candidates running for office. Your assessments of their potential and of the evening---as well as Your general commentary about Life on the Mount---made for enjoyable reading. You are talented and amazing. Thanks for Your commentary regarding that night. - gkisedtanamoogk
