morning:

We're back, safe and sound. The vacation entry is still being written - today I composed 11 vacation haikus that provide 17-syllable highlights to the weekend. I was going to post them today, but now I think I'll just include them in the entry proper.

entry is delayed
i made foolish promises
need time to compose

In other news, we're testing our grocery IQ - have we really bought enough canned, dried and frozen food to tide us over until we can get the time & work up the energy to go to the grocery store? Stay tuned. (I think dinner will be a can of soup. Classy.)

evening:

This has been an amazingly weary day. The only thing making it anything other than excruciating is the fact that (except for work) I don't have to be anywhere or do anything that I don't want to do. I am E*X*T*R*E*M*E*L*Y glad to be back in my quiet little town and my enormous 4-roomed house (6 if you count the storage space and the bathroom), sharing them only with one gentle anthropoid & one furry football. Human beings are great - especially the ones that are shaped like friends - but it's so hard to maintain one's sanity when travelling with 4 men, including 2 who are strong-willed to the point of mulish obstinacy. Consuming a lot of fried food and rum with very little sleep doesn't help group dynamics, either.

I am *so* going to stop complaining soon. Really I am. I mean, tonight I'm going to sleep 9 hours; which means that the weekend didn't kill me. And it looks like my digestion will recover, given sufficient quantities of water and plain rice and time. No harm, no foul.

And for all the taxing experiences that I am currently transcribing from my poor over-worked little brain, every moment with my friends was framed in gold. I can't forget how wonderful it was to hear Dirk laugh at a witty comment I had made as we were crossing the dance floor and then say: "Amoret, you are beautiful in a way that the word does not fully describe."

It's just that sometimes I mistake that peripheral metallic gleam for brass knuckles.
