Time to kill in Amsterdam... yay!

I dropped my dad off at the airport today at noon and then decided to head straight to Amsterdam, since I was supposed to meet someone at 5. I don't know why I'm so convinced of my ability to kill time. Probably because I spend my time on ridiculous things and only after do I realise how ridiculous I'm being. Today, for example, I decided to go back to a cafe where I'd had a coffee once with Vivien. I start off wandering around, trying to remember what street it's on, only to realize that I had a card for it in my book. Then I start going into various stores and looking at various maps trying to find the street. At some point, in the middle of all this, I start needing a washroom. Do I go to the nearby McDonald's? No. Do I go to any of the 50 billion cafes I pass? No. I, for some inexplicable reason, decide that I will go at this cafe, the Cafe De Jaren, and nowhere else. So finally, I end up at an internet cafe (this one, in fact), looking up a map of Amsterdam, squirming desperately in my seat, trying to find this place online, only to discover that I've been walking in circles around it. So, finally I go there, save my bladder from imminent rupture only to have a look around the place and discover that it's full. After all the effort expended trying to find this place, I decide to wait. Eventually I get a seat, get some food, do my crossword over a latte, and leave to come here to recheck my e-mail.

Total time elapsed: 2hrs, 45 min.

It's a good thing I'm so efficient the rest of the time, otherwise my whole life would be wasted.

I just bumped into Ranis, which means that the rest of this hour is effectively killed as well. Yay!

My dad's visiting me this week. He got here last Wednesday and then a couple of days after we left on a train trip to Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, and Antwerp. It's been sort of fun, sort of interesting, but it basically means that I have no time to blog. He'll be leaving on Saturday, so hopefully, I'll be able to post all sorts of fun adventures there, like climbing up a practically vertical path in Luxembourg to see an old fort called Vianden and eating way too much pastry in Strasbourg and getting covered in bug bites in Antwerp.

In the meantime, have a look at Vianden here.
